Privacy Policy
Newsio is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile app, website, and related services.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide and improve the service.
1.1 Information you provide
Account registration: email address, an encrypted password, and your chosen display name.
Social sign-in: when you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email, and a profile identifier subject to your privacy settings with that provider.
1.2 Information collected automatically
Device data: device model, OS version, unique device identifiers, and language settings.
Usage data: articles read, reading duration, swipe behaviour, saved items, and content categories you engage with.
Log data: IP address, timestamps, and crash/error logs for debugging.
1.3 Permissions
No sensitive permissions. Newsio does not currently request access to your camera, microphone, photo library, contacts, or precise geolocation.
2. How We Use Your Information
We process your data for the following legitimate purposes:
- Service delivery: account creation, authentication.
- Personalization: analyzing preferences to deliver custom news.
- App improvement: monitoring usage trends and debugging.
- Communication: service notices and, if opted in, push notifications.
- Security: detecting and preventing fraud or abuse.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
3. Data Storage and Third-Party Service Providers
To deliver and improve the App, we share certain data with the third-party processors listed below. None use your data for advertising or sell it.
3.1 Database storage (Supabase)
Your account, profile, library, and feed-interaction data are securely stored using Supabase. Data may be processed in regions outside your country of residence.
3.2 Product analytics (PostHog)
We use PostHog (PostHog, Inc.) to understand how the App is used. PostHog collects: anonymous product events (e.g., opening an article, swiping a card, tapping a notification); device metadata; a unique anonymous identifier or your user ID when signed in; and IP address (used for approximate geolocation and rate limiting, not stored long-term).
Events are processed by PostHog in the United States. You can opt out at any time in the App's Settings; events stop firing immediately.
3.3 Crash and error reporting (Sentry)
We use Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) to capture and diagnose crashes and runtime errors. Sentry collects: crash dumps and JavaScript stack traces; device metadata; an anonymous installation identifier; and IP address (not stored long-term).
Events are processed by Sentry in the United States. Crash data is retained per Sentry's standard retention (default 90 days).
3.4 AI-agent analytics (Arrivl)
On the newsio.io website we use Arrivl to measure how AI agents and crawlers (for example GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and PerplexityBot) discover and read our content. For each request to the site, our server forwards the requested URL, the User-Agent string, the referring URL, and the IP address to Arrivl, which classifies the visit and reports on AI-agent traffic; visits identified as ordinary human traffic are not retained by Arrivl.
This runs on the website only (not the mobile app) and processes data in the United States. If you decline analytics in the consent banner — or send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal — we stop forwarding your browser's requests to Arrivl. Requests from automated agents are always measured.
3.5 Data retention
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes in this policy. Anonymous analytics and crash data are retained per the relevant third party's standard policy.
4. Disclosure of Your Information
We share information only in these situations: service providers listed in Section 3 (Supabase, PostHog, Sentry, Arrivl); legal requirements when required by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
5. Push Notifications
With your consent, we may send push notifications to your device. You can disable these at any time in your device's notification settings or via the Notifications toggle in the App.
6. Your Data Rights and Account Deletion
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data:
- Access and correction: request access to and correct your data.
- Right to erasure: delete your account and associated data at any time.
To delete your account, use the Settings menu inside the App or follow the steps at newsio.io/account-deletion. For all other requests, email [email protected].
7. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and secure access controls. No electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8. Third-Party Content and Links
Content aggregation: Newsio aggregates headlines from various sources; original content belongs to its respective owners.
In-app web view: opening a full article may load third-party content that may collect data, use cookies, and monitor your interaction. We do not control those third-party sites or their privacy practices.
9. Children's Privacy
Newsio is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we discover such collection, we remove the data promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new policy on this page and update the "Last Updated" date. Review periodically for any changes.
