Qualcomm unveiled its new entry-level PC processor lineup, the Snapdragon C Platform, on May 29, targeting affordable notebook computers priced at around $300. Devices powered by the platform are scheduled to launch in the second half of the year through major notebook manufacturers including Lenovo, HP and Acer. Qualcomm said the Snapdragon C Platform is designed to deliver responsive performance, low heat generation, quiet operation and long battery life. The processor also integrates a neural processing unit (NPU), enabling artificial intelligence (AI) features on entry-level laptops. Detailed product configurations and specifications, however, have not yet been disclosed. The company said the platform aims to broaden access to modern personal computing experiences for students, households and small business users. Everyday workloads such as web browsing, video streaming and productivity tasks are expected to run with stable performance and high power efficiency. The low-heat chip design also removes the need for cooling fans, which is expected to enable quieter and more portable notebook designs. Kedar Kondap, senior vice president and general manager of compute and gaming at Qualcomm, said rising device prices are also increasing consumer expectations. "By combining the Snapdragon C Platform with products that offer strong price-to-performance value, we aim to help more users experience highly efficient next-generation computing," Kondap said.
