SoftBank Group Corp. agreed to acquire ABB Ltd.’s industrial robots unit at an enterprise value of almost $5.4 billion after the Swiss industrial conglomerate abandoned an earlier intention to spin off the business.
The deal with the Japanese investment firm comes after ABB had said in April that it planned to hive off the robotics unit in 2026 and create a separately listed entity. It was one of the first major strategic moves by Chief Executive Officer Morten Wierod , who took the helm in August last year.
