RX 9070 GRE made its debut earlier today, boasting 48 Compute Units, 48 Ray Tracing cores, 96 AIs, and 12 GB VRAM through a 192-bit memory interface.

The all-new RX 9070 GRE is here, and one of the first to launch a custom edition is ASRock, which unveiled its latest Steel Legend design. ASRock Launches Radeon RX 9070 GRE Steel Legend Dark 12 GB OC GPU, Featuring Up To 2920 MHz of Boost Clock After AMD announced the launch of the new RDNA 4 GPU, ASRock also unveiled its own design based on the same cut-down NAVI 48 die. The Radeon RX 9070 GRE made its debut earlier today, featuring the NAVI 48 die, boasting 48 Compute Units, 48 Ray Tracing cores, 96 AIs, and 12 GB VRAM through a 192-bit memory interface. The GPU was initially limited to China, but has now been introduced globally. The GPU brings a significantly cut-down memory configuration compared to the Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT, and also brings fewer shaders. ASRock revealed the same GPU with its own design under the Steel Legend family. The new card is known as the Radeon RX 9070 GRE Steel Legend Dark, a custom 12 RX 9070 GRE GPU with a triple-fan configuration that boasts a shroud in black and grey color schemes. The Steel Legend RX 9000 series is usually available in white/light-grey theme, but the RX 9070 GRE Steel Legend Dark transitions to a darker color scheme for a distinguished appearance. According to ASRock, the GPU offers an excellent heat dissipation through its triple-fan cooling solution that uses ASRock's exclusive Striped Ring fans, Air Deflecting Fin, and Ultra-fit Heatpipe technologies. The GPU boasts a grey backplate with a Steel Legend logo and a reinforced metal frame to strengthen the overall structure. Just like other RX 9000 Steel Legend series cards, this one too brings an RGB lighting zone on the side with the Steel Legend logo, which is customizable via the ASRock Polychrome SYNC app. As for the specs, the RX 9070 GRE Steel Legend Dark can boost up to 2920 MHz, which is noticeably higher than the boost clock on the reference edition. Performance-wise, this should help the card a bit, but no major improvements are expected vs the reference card. As per AMD, the RX 9070 GRE is nearly 22% faster than the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB card on average when compared in 40 games. However, AMD didn't compare the RX 9070 GRE with the GeForce RTX 5070, both of which are priced at $549. Due to RAMpocalypse, the RX 9070 has already gone past $600, which is why it was easier for AMD to price the GRE edition for $549, but the comparison should be done against the 70-class card, given that both GPUs also boast the same capacity VRAM apart from the same price tag.
